Aircraft carrier
Aircraft carriers can be very usefull to gain the initiative in remote battles. These ships deliver airpower where you need it and when you need it. Make sure though that you send some battle cruisers for protection. An aircraft carrier is always an interresting target.
A typical task-force may consist of two carriers, two transport ships and three to five battle cruisers. Together they form an awesome force, but the costs for building a task force are also awesome.
